Magician's Quest: Mysterious Times is set in a magic academy, where the protagonist studies spells and works toward earning a Magician Licence and becoming a Master Wizard. School life unfolds among more than 150 interactive pupils: the protagonist can make friends, learn abilities, shop, take up hobbies, play music in bands, and go on dates. The game world runs in real time according to the console’s internal clock.
Mysterious beings appear at the academy once a week and set puzzles to solve. Completing them rewards the protagonist with items for magic, while choices and relationships with other pupils shape the stories and adventures. The game includes 52 adventures, and reaching the Master Wizard rank also requires completing challenges and earning a five-star rating. The protagonist can be sent to a friend’s game world through a study-abroad scheme, where they receive tutoring and later talk about their experiences.
