Nefarious is a 2D action platformer about Crow, a villain who kidnaps princesses across five kingdoms to power his royalty-powered weapon. Its comedic story plays with the familiar video game trope of princess kidnapping by telling events from the villain’s perspective.

Each stage tasks Crow with capturing a princess and escaping with her while heroes try to stop him. In battles against those heroes, the player takes the role of the boss rather than fighting one; progression unlocks different grenade launcher ammo types and ways to customize explosive punches. Uncovering mysteries also unlocks a secret ending.
