The plot of the expansion takes players to an alternate 1651 in the Keian era, where the future of Edo has turned into a hellish wasteland, seized by the Forge. Throughout the story, players will have to uncover a new conspiracy surrounding the Spiritual Stones and face an enemy who fiercely hates the shogunate. The main novelty of the expansion is two new types of weapons — hoko and shield. In addition, the developers have added the "Hundreds of Demons" scroll system, which includes roguelike elements: battles can be replayed with different conditions to earn unique rewards.
