This arcade platformer challenges the player to climb vertical levels that are gradually sinking beneath the ocean. Rainbow Islands Revolution builds on the ideas of Rainbow Islands, the sequel to Bubble Bobble: the goal is to reach the top of each level while dealing with enemies and using magical rainbows. Drawn with the stylus, rainbows can trap foes or form bridges; tapping one makes it fall and hit the first enemy in its path.
The character is moved around the levels by dragging with the stylus, and the game spans both screens. Defeated enemies leave food worth points and power-ups with helpful effects. Movement and drawing rainbows both use the touchscreen, so the time limit is extended to account for the fact that these actions cannot be performed simultaneously.
