A tactical strategy game with action elements about commanding an Allied squad in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The player faces attacks from the Imperial Japanese Army while adapting to changing battlefield conditions, building trenches, calling in artillery, and upgrading the squad. Soldiers act semi-autonomously, and random events shape each battle.
In Defense in Depth, the squad must hold three successive positions and can retreat when needed. Point Defense rules out retreat but lets the player advance across the battlefield and spend command points on soldiers, weapons, and defenses. Campaign mode links multiple missions, with a persistent squad whose development depends on upgrades, ribbons, medals, and ranks that unlock special soldiers, weapons, and tactics.
