SoulCalibur V is a fighting game set 17 years after the events of SoulCalibur IV, where new heroes and returning warriors clash in a conflict between good and evil. The story follows Patroklos, son of Sophitia Alexandra, whose fate and that of his family are tied to the Soul swords.

Combat uses an eight-way run system that allows characters to move freely in three-dimensional space. The battle system has also been refined.
