Stardust Vanguards is a local dueling arcade game that combines fast-paced combat with summoned reinforcements and random events involving space pirates. Defeating enemies earns reinforcement points that can be spent to call in NPC allies. Pirates may enter the battle and try to win it themselves, changing the course of the fight.

The game features Deathmatch, Team Battles, Conquest and Space Ball, as well as a cooperative mode for one to four players with shared lives. Battles take place across 13 arenas, and Deathmatch rules can be customized with options such as infinite ammo and pirate event frequency.
