This action-adventure platformer with Metroidvania elements follows Samus Aran as she travels to the planet Zebes to retrieve an infant Metroid stolen by Ridley, leader of the Space Pirates.
The player explores a large world linked by doors and elevators, fights enemies, and searches for upgrades to Samus’s armor and weapons. New abilities open access to previously unreachable areas, while an automap helps chart the planet. Samus can fire in eight directions, jump between walls, and use the Moon Walk to move backwards while firing or charging her weapon. Progress can be saved at checkpoints and aboard her gunship.
