Ymir is a multiplayer 4X strategy game with city-building elements, in which players develop a civilization of pigmen from the Stone Age onward. The world is split between a global map and procedurally generated isometric regions that can be explored, settled, and built upon. Resources in each region vary according to its climate, terrain, and vegetation.

The economy and population operate without direct control: residents work and buy goods, while prices shift with supply, demand, and production costs. Players research technologies, trade, and negotiate agreements with others. Real-time battles take place in cities, where defenses can be built and terrain reshaped.
