Digital Foundry: Enabled VRR on PS5 and PS5 Pro Causes Stuttering in Some Games

Specialists from Digital Foundry tested a number of games on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) enabled. It turned out that the technology is not optimized and causes stuttering in certain games.
After numerous complaints from subscribers, the experts decided to personally test the VRR technology. As a result, it caused a drop in FPS in several games at once, namely:
As testing showed, after about 20-30 minutes of launch, the games started to freeze at intervals of eight seconds. Interestingly, the engine did not affect the FPS drops in any way: for example, Dragon's Dogma 2 worked perfectly on the RE Engine, but Resident Evil 4 did not.
We've tested 19 different games across both PS5 and PS5 Pro and we've tested across a range of displays — the problem is real, it affects both standard and enhanced consoles and we've discovered that some games are impacted while others are not. There are still plenty of questions that need answers, but this will require Sony to step in.
Sony has not yet commented on the problem with VRR technology.
Earlier, Digital Foundry was impressed by the trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, noting the good work with graphics and facial expression synchronization.
