Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered is a visually and technically enhanced version of the adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man, where the player, in the role of Spider-Man, finds themselves in a vast open world of New York filled with adventures. The updated version is available for PlayStation 5 and Windows, includes the original game and all expansions, as well as the ability to transfer save files, preserving the progress made on PS4.

During development, Insomniac drew inspiration from Marvel comics, but the game is not part of the cinematic universe and has its own. The events skip the period of Peter Parker's becoming Spider-Man and begin when the hero has gained superhero experience, met, and even parted ways with Mary Jane. His alter ego is known and popular in New York. A series of high-profile crimes forces the city's mayor, Norman Osborn, to accuse Spider-Man of inciting chaos and order mercenaries led by Silver Sable to begin the hunt. Manhattan is the foundation of the Marvel's Spider-Man game world. It is filled not only with numerous skyscrapers but also with landmarks — Central Park, the Wakandan embassy, the Avengers Tower, bridges, and more. Areas such as Harlem, the Upper West Side, the East Side, Hell's Kitchen, Midtown, Greenwich, Chinatown, and the Financial District are available for exploration. Each area has towers that unlock access to new missions, events, and locations, just like in Far Cry.

Everything is designed to give Spider-Man plenty of space to maneuver with his jumps between skyscrapers at height and parkour. You can climb all the buildings and peek inside some of them; there is also a subway for quick travel. However, the Remastered version does not add new areas of New York, new locations, or spaces within buildings.

In Marvel's Spider-Man, there are several main characters. Peter Parker is an ordinary student who has taken a part-time job at a research institute. A spider bit Parker at the age of 15; at the time of the game's events, he is 23, and in this guise, the player will experience all the typical problems of this age: debts, starting a career, lack of time and money.

His alter ego (Spider-Man) is doing much better. He is not a novice but an experienced superhero who has saved New York multiple times, a celebrity with whom people want to take selfies. The developers also allowed players to control Mary Jane, Spider-Man's girlfriend. As an ally for the main character, Miles Morales has appeared — the first Black Spider-Man.

As for villains, Spider-Man faces a multitude of notorious rogues — Mister Negative, Kingpin, Scorpion, Shocker, Rhino, and others. With the release of the Remastered version, the number of villains has increased, as three separate chapters have been added:

All three chapters of the expansion begin after the main events of the game have concluded. Each chapter adds new missions, characters, and storylines that expand the Spider-Man narrative but do not fundamentally change it.

Marvel's Spider-Man offers a completely original storyline that encompasses the life of Peter Parker, Spider-Man, and his girlfriend Mary Jane. The plot's setup is simple — Norman Osborn is re-elected as mayor of New York, a position also desired by Martin Li. To sabotage Osborn's campaign, Mister Negative opens the city to criminals and madmen, who begin tearing New York apart.

To protect law and order, Osborn hires Silver Sable's organization and declares Spider-Man an outlaw. Finding himself caught between two fires, Spider-Man must carefully untangle a web of various events, gather facts together, and bring everyone to justice. Along the way, the authors showcase Peter and May's personal lives. Six months before the events of the game, they broke up, but circumstances bring them back together.

To add depth and realism to the main plot, the authors created numerous side quests in the open world, both large and small. Crimes are a significant group of random missions that players receive simply by moving around the city. By using his abilities, Spider-Man can stop a robbery, car theft, drug dealing, and so on, and if he runs out of time, a chase after fleeing criminals will begin.

The gameplay of the Remastered version remains largely unchanged compared to the original game. However, the remaster does not include unique abilities and technologies that appeared in the game featuring Miles Morales. A large part of the gameplay is tied to the combat system. Spider-Man uses a variety of skills to take down criminals, and there are no restrictions on the order in which they can be used. He jumps between clumsy enemies, shoots webs, uses gadgets and elements of the environment to stun and tie up all opponents.

Instead of long combos with pressing the right buttons — quick and very dynamic battles. Instead of hand-to-hand combat — combinations of strikes and abilities, such as web-swinging, jumping, and parkour, sticking to walls, aerial strikes, spider-sense, and much more.

For example, you can pull enemies into the air one by one, beating them while moving and suspending those who are already stunned. When the adrenaline meter is full, the hero performs a spectacular finishing move. A gameplay feature of Marvel's Spider-Man is the gadgets, such as a bomb that sprays webs on nearby enemies, as well as a drone that flies over enemies and shoots webs.

Peter takes a break from being Spider-Man in his lab or at home, where he can build new gadgets, solve puzzles, or interact with story characters.
