Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered is a visually and technically enhanced version of the adventure game Marvel's Spider-Man, where the player, as Spider-Man, finds themselves in a vast open world of New York filled with adventures. The updated version is available for PlayStation 5 and Windows, includes the original game and all expansions, as well as the ability to transfer save files, preserving the progress made on PS4.

During development, Insomniac drew inspiration from Marvel comics, but the game is not part of the cinematic universe; it has its own. The events skip the period of Peter Parker's development as Spider-Man and start when the hero has gained superhero experience, met, and even parted ways with Mary Jane. His alter ego is well-known and popular in New York. A series of high-profile crimes forces the city's mayor, Norman Osborn, to accuse Spider-Man of inciting chaos and order mercenaries, led by Silver Sable, to begin the hunt. Now the hero must defeat the villains and reclaim his good name.

Manhattan is the foundation of the Marvel's Spider-Man game world. It is filled not only with numerous skyscrapers but also with landmarks such as Central Park, the Wakandan Embassy, the Avengers Tower, bridges, and more. Areas available for exploration include Harlem, the Upper West Side and East Side, Hell's Kitchen, Midtown, Greenwich, Chinatown, and the Financial District. Each area has towers that unlock access to new missions, events, and locations, just like in Far Cry.

Everything is designed so that Spider-Man has plenty of space to maneuver with his jumps between skyscrapers and parkour. You can climb all buildings and peek inside some of them; there is also a subway for quick travel. However, the Remastered version does not add new areas of New York, new locations, or spaces inside buildings.

In Marvel's Spider-Man, there are several main characters. Peter Parker is an ordinary student who has taken a part-time job at a research institute. A spider bit Parker when he was 15, and at the time of the game's events, he is 23, experiencing all the typical problems of this age: debts, starting a career, lack of time and money.

His alter ego (Spider-Man) is doing much better. He is not a novice but an experienced superhero who has saved New York multiple times, a celebrity with whom people want to take selfies. The developers also allowed players to control Mary Jane — Spider-Man's girlfriend. As support for the main character, Miles Morales appears — the first black Spider-Man.

As for the villains, Spider-Man faces a multitude of notorious villains — Mister Negative, Kingpin, Scorpion, Shocker, Rhino, and others. With the release of the Remastered version, the number of villains increased, as three separate chapters were added:

All three chapters of the expansion begin after the main events of the game are completed. Each chapter adds new missions, characters, and storylines that expand the Spider-Man narrative without fundamentally changing it.

Marvel's Spider-Man offers a completely original story that covers the life of Peter Parker, Spider-Man, and his girlfriend Mary Jane. The plot begins simply — Norman Osborn is re-elected as the mayor of New York, while Martin Li also aims for the position. To disrupt Osborn's campaign, Mr. Negative opens the city to criminals and madmen, who start tearing New York apart.

To maintain law and order, Osborn hires the Silver Sable organization and declares Spider-Man an outlaw. Caught between two fires, Spider-Man must carefully untangle a web of various events, gather facts, and expose everyone. Along the way, the authors show Peter and May's personal life. Six months before the events of the game, they broke up, but circumstances bring them back together.

To add depth and realism to the main story, the authors created many additional quests in the open world, both large and small. Crimes are a significant group of random tasks that can be obtained simply by moving around the city. Using abilities, players can stop a robbery, car theft, drug dealing, and so on, and if time runs out, a chase will begin after fleeing criminals.

The gameplay of the Remastered version remains mostly unchanged compared to the original game. However, the remaster lacks unique abilities and technologies that appeared in the game about Miles Morales. Most of the gameplay is tied to the combat system. Spider-Man uses a variety of skills to stop criminals, and there are no restrictions on the order of their application. Spider-Man jumps between clumsy enemies, shoots webs, uses gadgets and environmental elements to stun and tie up all opponents.

Instead of long combos with pressing the right buttons — there are quick and very dynamic fights. Instead of hand-to-hand combat — combinations of strikes and abilities, such as web-swinging, jumping, and parkour, sticking to walls, aerial strikes, spider-sense, and much more.

For example, you can pull enemies one by one into the air, beating them along the way and suspending those already stunned. When the adrenaline meter is full, the hero performs a spectacular finishing move. A gameplay feature of Marvel's Spider-Man is the gadgets, like a bomb that sprays web on nearby enemies, and a drone that flies over enemies and shoots webs.

Peter takes a break from being Spider-Man in his lab or at home, where he has to construct new gadgets, solve another puzzle, or interact with story characters.
