In the intriguing quest «The Phantom Oxcart» in Dragon's Dogma 2, players find themselves embroiled in a mystery surrounding a peculiar oxcart that emerges near the capital under the cloak of night. This mission challenges you to disguise yourself as a pawn to infiltrate and uncover the truth behind the oxcart's nocturnal excursions and the fate of the abducted pawns. How to complete The Phantom Oxcart quest

Rumors circulate the city about a phantom oxcart that appears near the capital right after sunset. You will receive this quest upon arriving from the Border Town. The mission can be activated simply by walking past the oxcart stand in the western part of Vernworth. It's worth noting that the quest will likely remain inactive until you visit the town of Backbattal.

Once you've accepted the quest, a marker will appear at the city's western gates. You can only encounter the phantom oxcart at night, so head to the inn or your home to rest.

Upon your first arrival at the location, you'll meet a soldier who is gathering pawns to transport to an unknown location. Upon noticing the hero, he will start to flee. Follow him and interact several times (hold the action button). If he doesn't respond, grab him and knock him to the ground. In our case, physical force was not necessary.

The man will hand over a certain merchant's document and also ask to be released. We advise against doing this. Choose the option «Deliver him to Vermund» to continue the quest. Soon, you will find yourself at the dungeon. Run to Captain Brant at the inn and tell him what happened, and also hand over the document you received.

The guard will suggest tracking where the captured pawns are taken. To do this, remove all clothing from the character (even rings), wait until the next evening, and head to the oxcart stand. You can leave only a lantern on the hero. It's advisable to instruct your pawns to wait for you at the city gates (the «4» key on PC).

When you approach the oxcart, talk to the coachman. He will open the door, and you just need to find the interaction button to start the cart moving. During the journey, you will stop once because a small squad of low-level goblins will attack the oxcart. Press the «X» button, leave the cart, and deal with the monsters in hand-to-hand combat. You cannot wear weapons and clothing!

The next stop will be in the Border Town. All pawns, including the protagonist, will be led out of the oxcart by guards who decide to test them. When the guards are beating the hero, do not respond to them and wait for the cutscene to start.

Upon arriving at the sealed door in the Tribal Castle, immediately put on all your equipment and get rid of the guards. It's not necessary to fight everyone — after the first one killed, a document «Orders for the Requisition of Workers» will appear in your inventory. Your pawns will likely join the fight, but they won't be able to last long. A strange force operates near the gates, the same kind used by the puppet ruler in Vernworth. We recommend moving to a safe distance and using a return crystal to Vernworth. Tell everything to the captain to complete the quest and receive 14,500 gold, a Ring of Urging, and 4,000 experience points.
