Mistfall Hunter is a PvPvE action RPG that combines extraction mechanics with soulslike combat. In this guide, we'll explain which class is best for beginners, which camp upgrades to prioritize, how to approach PvPvE encounters, and how extraction works on each map.

How Mistfall Hunter Gameplay Works

Mistfall Hunter is built around short expeditions that usually last no more than half an hour. Before each run, you choose your class, weapons, armor, skills, and consumables, then enter one of the maps either solo or as part of a three-player squad. Once inside, you'll explore points of interest, complete objectives, open chests, fight regular monsters, elite enemies, and bosses, while constantly watching out for other Gylden Hunters. They can attack at any moment and take your loot.

The map highlights areas with more valuable loot, objectives, and powerful boss lairs. The greater the danger, the better the potential rewards. You can't explore indefinitely, however. Gyldenmist gradually consumes the map, forcing players into the remaining safe areas and eventually pushing them toward extraction.

After a successful extraction, you can keep the gear you found in the Warehouse, sell it, use it for another build, or invest it into character progression. Then the loop begins again with harder expeditions, stronger enemies, and more valuable loot.

Best Class for Beginners

You can switch classes in Mistfall Hunter without creating a new character. However, each new class still needs to be leveled separately unless you use the available catch-up mechanics. For your first few runs, it's best to choose a class that matches your preferred playstyle.

Blackarrow is a ranged class that uses a bow, traps, and different types of arrows. One of its playstyles focuses on mobility, charged shots, and high burst damage, while the other relies more heavily on debuffs and controlling enemies. It's a strong choice for solo players who prefer to keep their distance.

Shadowstrix is the most fragile class, but also one of the most dangerous. Its strengths are stealth, ambushes, critical attacks, and high mobility. It's excellent for hunting other players, but mistakes are heavily punished, so you'll need a good understanding of the combat system.

Sorcerer uses Elemental Magic and Stardust Magic. The class can freeze, stun, and ignite enemies, control groups, and deal heavy damage from range. Its main weakness is poor survivability in close combat, so positioning is crucial. Always leave yourself an escape route before committing to a fight.

Mercenary is the most versatile option for beginners. The class can use either a Hammer or Sword & Shield, has strong survivability, handles groups well, and can block and counterattack effectively. Mercenary works well against bosses and other players while giving newcomers more room to learn enemy attack patterns.

Withered Knight is a more advanced melee fighter. The class uses a Greatsword or Polearm & Shield, can weaken enemies, withstand heavy damage, parry attacks, and counterattack. It works particularly well for players who are already comfortable with Mistfall Hunter's combat system.

Seer combines healing, support, and offensive abilities. Using runes and other skills, the class can debuff enemies, heal allies, create defensive effects, and strengthen the party. It's one of the most convenient options for group play.

If you're new to extraction ARPGs or soulslikes, Mercenary is the easiest place to start. Blackarrow is a strong choice for ranged solo play, while Seer is especially useful in a team.

Which Camp Upgrades to Prioritize

Resources are limited during the first few hours, so don't try to upgrade every building at once.

Prioritize the Warehouse first. Increasing its capacity lets you store more materials and equipment for future expeditions and other camp upgrades.

The next important structure is the Goddess Statue. Upgrading it improves the healing provided by the Springhorn, which directly increases your survivability during longer expeditions.

After that, start investing in the Workshop. It handles crafting and equipment upgrades, so it becomes increasingly valuable as you progress.

The Shop is useful after a string of unsuccessful runs, allowing you to restock essential items and basic gear.

The Auction House lets you buy and sell items with other players. Upgrading it expands your trading options, so it's worth investing in eventually.

The Gyldenblod Pool increases the capacity of your Gyldjar, which determines how much Gyldenblod you can bring back from a single expedition. It's also tied to the number of character slots available to your account. If you plan to play several classes, this structure becomes particularly important.

At the Tavern, you can drink special brews before an expedition. They grant additional effects for a single run. Upgrading the Tavern unlocks stronger options, starting with the basic Mortal's Tonic and progressing to Hero's Ale, Warblood, and Gods' Brew.

The Scavenger Squad can be left for later. It goes on expeditions and brings back additional materials, but early on the Warehouse, Goddess Statue, and Gyldenblod Pool are much more important.

Most Effective Map-Clearing Strategy

Don't try to clear every point of interest. Grab the most valuable loot quickly and keep moving. The longer you remain in one place, the greater the chance that another squad will find you.

A useful strategy is to move along the edge of the Gyldenmist while gradually shifting toward the safe area. This reduces the chance of running into players who immediately rush the most obvious high-value loot locations.

Use the environment to your advantage. You can crouch, use portals and secret passages, close doors behind you, or even sacrifice some Health by jumping from a height if it helps you escape a fight you're unlikely to win.

In a trio, try to stay close together. While one player collects loot, the others can watch entrances and keep an eye out for approaching enemies. Close doors and gates behind you. Pursuers will have to interact with them again, buying your squad a few extra seconds.

How Extraction Works

Mistfall Hunter doesn't use the traditional extraction-game system where you simply run to a permanent exit at the end of a match. Instead, you need to create an Extraction Point, and the process differs between Hallowgrove and Brandrgarde. Until you successfully extract, all the loot you're carrying remains at risk.

How to Extract from Hallowgrove

Some time after the expedition begins, the Returning Chime becomes available. The game notifies you with both a visual and audio cue. The Chime itself does not return you to camp. Instead, it starts the sequence needed to create an exit.

First, interact with the Returning Chime. This summons a Hallowgrove Woodling somewhere in Hallowgrove. Its location changes from match to match, so you can't memorize a fixed spawn point and head there every time.

Find and defeat the Hallowgrove Woodling. Once killed, it transforms into a Soul Tree. Approach the tree and use the Returning Chime sequence again to create an Extraction Point nearby. Interact with the Extraction Point to leave the map with all of your loot.

Keep in mind that you're vulnerable during the extraction process. Before starting the interaction, restore your Health, check nearby approaches, and make sure no other players are close enough to ambush you.

Hallowgrove can also contain a Smuggler Woodling, which provides an emergency way to end a bad expedition without completing the normal extraction sequence. However, this comes with a major drawback. You keep your equipped gear and only a limited selection of chosen loot, while everything else is left behind. This option is useful when you're out of healing items, enemy players are nearby, and reaching a normal extraction is too risky.

How to Extract from Brandrgarde

Brandrgarde does not use the Returning Chime. Instead, there are two main ways to create an exit.

The first involves Soul Trees, which can appear at different locations around the map. Reaching one allows you to summon an Extraction Point nearby and leave with everything you're carrying.

However, you can't rely on a Soul Tree remaining available until the end of the match. These trees eventually wither and can no longer be used for extraction. If you spot one early in a run but plan to keep exploring for a while, make sure you have a backup plan.

The second method is to find a Returner Woodling. These enemies appear in areas not covered by the Gyldenmist. Defeat one to obtain a Soul of Return.

The main advantage of the Soul of Return is that it effectively gives you a portable extraction option. Use it from a suitable location to summon an Extraction Point near your character. This means you don't have to cross half the map with a full inventory just to escape.

Both standard Brandrgarde extraction methods let you keep everything you're carrying.

What You Lose When You Die

If you die, you can lose your entire inventory and equipped armor
If you die, you can lose your entire inventory and equipped armor

The most important rule in Mistfall Hunter is simple: everything your character is carrying during an expedition remains at risk until you successfully extract.

If your character dies permanently, you can lose:

  • equipped weapons.
  • armor.
  • gems socketed into your equipment.
  • loot and other items stored in regular bags.

The main exception is Pip's Bag. Items placed in its protected slots remain with you even after death, so it's worth moving valuable loot into it as soon as you find something rare.

There is also a difference between dying to PvE and being killed by another Gylden Hunter. Death from monsters or falling can sometimes place your character into Soul Form, allowing you to continue the expedition. If your character dies permanently, however, you may lose the remaining equipment and loot.
