A generator, dozens of control panels, three locked doors, and no room for mistakes. The cable puzzle at R&D Headquarters in We Were Here Tomorrow can easily leave both players at a dead end. Here's how the electricity flows and which route will carry power to all three batteries.

What Is the Objective of the Puzzle?

After the gravity rooms, both players arrive at R&D Headquarters, where they need to restore power to the building. To do that, they must charge three batteries by routing electricity through control modules scattered across the rooms. Each module has its own label on the front, consisting of a Greek letter and a two-digit number, such as Ψ02 or Σ04. Your goal is to carry power from the generator through a chain of modules until it reaches the batteries.

The good news is that the layout is the same in every playthrough. Module labels and connections never change, so once you know the correct route, you just need to follow it carefully. The bad news is that taking the wrong branch can leave the chain at a dead end, forcing you to start over. Pressing a disconnected or previously used module, however, simply triggers an error without resetting your progress.

How the Room Is Set Up

The two players solve the puzzle from different floors, with one upstairs and the other downstairs. Each group of modules occupies a separate room, while some modules are built directly into the walls. Colored cables run along the walls and floors, connecting to the panels from both the front and the back. Much of the puzzle involves tracing each wire: one player follows the cable while the other checks where it leads.

Power always flows from the last module you activated. A module glowing blue can still pass power onward, while a yellow module has already done its job.

Three yellow cables run down from Ψ07 to the three batteries. To charge the first battery, the chain must pass through Ψ02. The second requires Ψ02 and λ03, while the third requires Ψ02, λ03, and Θ03. At the end of each stage, Ψ07 must be the final link, triggering the chain check.

Rules for Routing Power

The chain starts at the unmarked module beside the ENERGY REBOOT sign. Guides call it GEN, although that label does not actually appear in the game. Ψ01 is the first numbered module you must activate, and there is no other valid starting option. From there, power travels along the cables, subject to several restrictions.

You can only activate a module connected by cable to the one you activated most recently. Wait for the previous module to finish powering up before pressing the next one, or the command will fail. You cannot skip a link or backtrack to an earlier junction. Each module can be used only once when building a route. Once power has passed through it, you cannot activate it again as a new link.

Not every panel is accessible at the start. You can reach the generator, all Psi (Ψ) modules, all Sigma (Σ) modules, and only Δ02 and Δ05 from the Delta (Δ) group. Everything else is behind colored doors.

You do not need to activate every module, either. Some are not part of the correct route at all, and trying to use every panel will only lead you into a dead end.

How to Open the Colored Doors

Some of the module rooms are locked at first. Their doors have three labels: Red (RED), Green (GRE), and Blue (BLU). It's easy to mistake these for additional modules, but you cannot activate the doors directly. Each one opens when power passes through a particular module, giving you access to another group.

The red door opens when you activate Σ03. Behind it are Δ01, Δ03, and Δ04.

The green door opens through Σ02, granting access to the Theta group: Θ01, Θ02, Θ03, and Θ04.

The blue door opens through Δ03, which means you must open the red door first because Δ03 is behind it. The blue door leads to the Lambda group: λ01, λ02, and λ03.

Keep in mind that opening a door only makes more modules available. You still have to follow a cable from your previous module, and you still cannot reuse one you have already activated. Opening a door does not let you jump straight to the modules behind it.

Key Modules Along the Route

To make sure you're on the right track, remember four key modules. In the route below, power passes through them in this order: Ψ02 first, then Θ03, followed by λ03, and finally Ψ07. However, the first three checkpoints do not necessarily have to be activated in that exact order. What matters is that every required module receives power before you activate Ψ07.

Step-by-Step Route

Here is the complete route, divided into four sections. It works for all three batteries, but after charging each of the first two, you must reset the power and build the chain again. Call out module labels to your partner one at a time and confirm every activation. That makes it much harder to mix up similar numbers.

The first section carries power through the Psi group and reaches the first checkpoint: GEN → Ψ01 → Ψ04 → Ψ02. Notice that you cannot go straight to Ψ02. You must pass through Ψ01 and Ψ04 first.

The second section opens both doors controlled by the Sigma group: Ψ03 → Ψ06 → Σ04 → Σ03 → Σ01 → Σ02. The red door opens at Σ03, and the green door opens at Σ02. The order matters here: you activate 04 and 03 before moving on to 01 and 02.

The third section takes you through the green and red areas toward the final door: Ψ08 → Θ03 → Δ02 → Δ03. This brings you through the second checkpoint, Θ03, and opens the blue door at Δ03. You only need Θ03 from the entire Theta group, so leave the other three modules alone.

The fourth section completes the chain: λ02 → λ03 → λ01 → Ψ07. The Lambda modules are not activated in numerical order. Start with 02, move to 03 (the third checkpoint), and then activate 01. Ψ07 is the final link.

The full route is:

GEN → Ψ01 → Ψ04 → Ψ02 → Ψ03 → Ψ06 → Σ04 → Σ03 → Σ01 → Σ02 → Ψ08 → Θ03 → Δ02 → Δ03 → λ02 → λ03 → λ01 → Ψ07

That's 18 links in total, including the generator. You do not need Δ01, Δ04, Δ05, Θ01, Θ02, or Θ04 to solve the puzzle.

What to Do If the Power Stops Flowing

Sometimes the cables stop transferring power after you activate several modules. Don't assume it's a bug right away. Compare your current chain with the route above. In most cases, an extra module has slipped in, or you've skipped one.

If you've charged a battery but the power won't go any farther, reset the chain and follow the route again. Pressing Ψ07 a second time won't help: once a module has been activated, it cannot be reused without a reset.

If you're completely stuck, use Energy Reboot. You'll find the reset chains next to the ENERGY REBOOT sign by the starting module. Resetting turns off every module and closes the colored doors again, allowing you to rebuild the chain. Any batteries you've already charged will keep their progress.

Ultimately, the puzzle comes down to two things: never backtrack through a used module, and open the doors at the right time with Σ03, Σ02, and Δ03. Talk through every step with your partner, keep an eye on the four checkpoints Ψ02, Θ03, λ03, and Ψ07, and you'll charge all three batteries on your first try.
