It seems Ubisoft no longer refers to Yasuke from Assassin's Creed: Shadows as a true samurai
It looks like the developers of Assassin's Creed: Shadows are trying to resolve the controversy surrounding one of the main characters—Yasuke, a Black African warrior. Members of the ResetEra forum noticed that on the Japanese Steam page, the character is no longer described as a samurai.
A user named Neha claims that the developers removed all mentions of the word "samurai" (侍), replacing it with "Ikki Tousen" (一騎当千), which translates to "a warrior who can face a thousand enemies." The word "samurai" now only appears in the last paragraph in English and on the Japanese PlayStation Store page, which has not yet been updated with the new release date.
The description of the game remains unchanged in other regions. Some users believe this is Ubisoft’s attempt to mend relations with the Japanese audience, with whom the company has had a rocky history. For example, it was recently revealed that the new release date of Assassin's Creed: Shadows coincides with the anniversary of a subway terrorist attack in Japan, sparking criticism.
Assassin's Creed: Shadows is set to launch on March 20 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. Previously, the developers shared details about the first expansion, which will be free for all pre-order owners.
