"This makes Cologne look bad": studio says gamescom organizers stopped it from going to the police after a theft

Australian studio Ukiyo Studios said that two years ago it lost a computer the exact same way — carried off from its booth — and when the team tried to file a police report, a gamescom staff member stopped them from doing so. The reasoning given was direct: reports like that make the show and the city of Cologne look bad. The studio also added that it's glad for this year's affected colleagues, who at least have the chance to actually get the police involved. -
Gaming News August 29, 2026, 10:32 AMThe Gamescom Awards were handed out in Cologne on August 28 — 19 awards, some chosen by a jury, some by showgoer vote. The award for best graphics went to Metro 2039 from 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver: the shooter went into the ceremony as the favorite with five nominations, but walked away with only that one. The most statuettes went home with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — three awards for CD Projekt RED, eleven years after the game's release.
