Engineering samples of upcoming AMD Ryzen processors based on Zen 6 have reached the company’s key partners. The news comes via software developer 1usmus and updates to the diagnostic tool AIDA64.
Sources indicate Zen 6 will build on the current Zen 5 architecture, with core changes focused on the chip layout. Base compute dies will pack up to 12 cores (versus 8 in Zen 5), potentially enabling 24-core desktop chips. AMD consumer CPUs will also debut a split DDR5 memory controller for the first time. Channel count remains unchanged (dual-channel), pointing to bandwidth optimizations and lower latency.
L3 cache per CCD will also grow to 48MB. Overclocking algorithms (Boost, Curve Optimizer) won’t see major overhauls, simplifying tool adaptation (e.g., Hydra). AM5 platform support continues — current motherboards will work with new chips after a BIOS update.
Performance gains are expected in multithreaded workloads (rendering, compilation) thanks to higher core counts and optimized memory access. Gaming performance could also improve due to reduced RAM latency and larger cache. Official Ryzen Zen 6 launch isn’t expected before mid-2026. Partner sampling confirms the project is now in active hardware and software testing.
