Alleged engineering drawings and precise dimensions for Apple's foldable smartphone, known internally by the codename V68, have appeared online. According to the schematics, the device will measure 83.8 mm in width and 120.6 mm in height with a thickness of 9.6 mm when folded. These proportions make it notably wider and shorter than current classic iPhone models. The external display will have a diagonal of approximately 5.5 inches with an unconventional resolution of 2088 × 1422 pixels.

The core design concept is revealed in the unfolded state. The device transforms into a compact tablet with an internal screen diagonal of 7.76 inches (2713 × 1920 pixel resolution) and dimensions of 167.6 × 120.6 mm. It appears that engineers opted for this unusually wide folded form factor precisely to achieve these more square, "tablet-like" proportions for the open screen, similar to the iPad mini.

The published schematics also show the placement of the dual main camera module. Judging by the drawings, the front-facing camera for the internal screen will be fully integrated into the display, though the implementation details (whether a cutout or under-display camera technology) are not revealed. To save internal space and achieve minimal thickness, Apple may forego the Face ID system in favor of a side-mounted Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone in the fall of 2026. However, a number of analysts note that despite a possible announcement next year, the ramp-up to mass production and sales volumes could be delayed until 2027.

The emergence of specific engineering drawings, even if unconfirmed officially, traditionally points to an active stage of device development. As part of the broader plan for 2026-2027, alongside the foldable iPhone, Apple is reportedly preparing a major lineup refresh: the iPhone 18 Pro with under-display Face ID, new iPad mini and MacBook models with M5 chips, and a second generation of AirTag.
