The campaign involves managing a nation's political, economic, technological, and military affairs, with some processes available for automated control. Players plan operations, fight on tactical maps, research weapons, form alliances, and conduct espionage. The game also features historical figures, local conflicts, and civil wars, while decisions can lead to an alternative course of European history.
