This cooperative space sandbox follows an expedition across a galaxy divided by a cataclysm. A ring of torn hyperspace fabric blocks access to its center, where the alien Xsotan and a metal called Avorion have appeared. The player starts at the galaxy’s edge and works toward its core, where the dangers and potential rewards grow greater.

In Avorion, players build ships from scalable blocks that break apart where they are hit, then outfit them with weapons and turrets. Exploration takes them through nebulae and asteroid fields as they mine, trade, fight pirates, and take part in wars between factions. Loot from defeated enemies can be used to upgrade ships, while hangars allow players to command fighter squads.
