A real-time strategy game with a top-down view, Battle Group 2 follows a modern naval fleet's fight against the terrorist group Talon. The player commands a squadron, repels enemy attacks, and leads a campaign across three theatres of war: jungle shores, industrial ports, and arctic seas.

The campaign spans more than 30 levels and includes boss battles, while enemy formations and some level content are procedurally generated. Progress unlocks eight ships, and satellite strikes—including EMP blasts and experimental time-manipulation technology—provide additional support for the fleet.
