Все изображается или в двумерном пространстве, или создают псевдо «объем» из нескольких рядов двумерных пространств. Например, персонаж может зайти за «плоский» дом. Иногда камера находится полностью вертикально, и игрок смотрит на плоский мир сверху, как в первой игре серии GTA. Масштабирование в таких играх применяется очень редко. Может такой способ использоваться в квестах, ролевых играх, режь и руби, победи всех, стратегиях и во многих других.
