This vertically scrolling shooter is set in space and pits a starfighter against an enemy armada known as the Dark Squadron. In Blazing Lazers, the player fights through nine stages, each containing one or more bosses, and takes on the enemy’s Super Weapons. A hit costs a life, and the game resumes from a previously reached checkpoint; extra lives are awarded for reaching certain score milestones.
The main weapon can be changed or powered up by collecting items left behind when special capsules are destroyed. There are four weapon types, while other power-ups provide ship doubles, homing missiles, and shields. The player can also use powerful bombs that affect a large area of the screen and adjust the ship’s movement speed.
