Castlevania Game Series
Castlevania is a very old and well-known series of platformers and later slashers, the first parts of which were released on the NES. It tells the story of the eternal confrontation between the powerful Count Dracula and the vampire hunter family - the Belmonts. Despite the fact that Dracula is usually defeated, he is resurrected: either by himself or with the help of his eternal servants.
The first games in the Castlevania series are Metroidvania platformers: the main character is given freedom of movement, but most locations cannot be accessed from the very beginning without certain artifacts. As these artifacts increase, previously closed doors open.
The Lords of Shadow series, in turn, is a three-dimensional slasher without Metroidvania elements.
