Crest is a god-game strategy sim set in an Afrofuturist world inspired by African biomes and an Iron Age civilization. The player influences a people and tries to guide their lives through commandments written in an evolving pictographic language.
The meaning of commandments shifts with people’s experiences and beliefs, while their free will leads to unpredictable consequences. Settlements are affected by weather, vegetation, mineral deposits, droughts and animal behavior. New words unlock over time, allowing more complex commandments; the people’s history is recorded, and their deaths bring that world to an end. There is no victory: the aim is to survive and observe the consequences of decisions.
