Dead or Alive 6 is a continuation of the series of side-scrolling arcade fighting games set in the Dead or Alive universe. The game continues the traditions of the series, where you will encounter muscular male fighters as well as sexy female fighters in tight clothing.

Dead or Alive 6 is a side-scrolling arcade fighting game featuring two battling fighters. The game has become "more serious," with its concept focused on fighting with elements of entertainment, rather than the usual cute visuals. The gameplay has changed significantly — the fights have become more brutal, breaking a number of taboos.

A new engine is used, revealing the potential of PS4 Pro and XOne X, offering high-quality graphics, different lighting for various surfaces, detailed character models, sweat and blood, as well as new physics for strikes and movements. The skin looks more realistic, with streaks, shadows, and wrinkles, and during the fight, the fighters begin to sweat. The characters are significantly more detailed compared to previous games.

The events of the Dead or Alive series take place in various corners of the planet. The plot revolves around the Mugen Tenshin ninja clan, which is forced to cooperate with the DOATEC corporation, aiming to create a super-soldier. The latter organizes the Dead or Alive martial arts tournament to find the strongest fighters, isolate their genes and skills for its experiments.

In Dead or Alive 6, fights take place in two types of arenas – a standard circular ring with laser ropes and in more spacious locations such as city streets, office buildings, factories, and other places. The second type of arenas is designed for players to utilize the environment, which can be used as an aid in beating the opponent in DEA 6.

At the core of Dead or Alive 6 are characters with different fighting styles, and knowing their strengths and weaknesses is key to victory.

For example, a street fighter can use slow but powerful strikes, as well as the environment to increase their chances of winning. A fighter from the ninja school employs technical strikes with varying power and speed, preferring to maintain control over the opponent.

With the efforts of Team Ninja, players can try out the updated Kasumi, Hayate, Ryu Hayabusa, Helena Douglas, Jenn Li, Zack, and others. The appearance of the girls has changed — they used to be impossibly sexy, in tight clothing with bouncing breasts, which often distracted players.

In Dead or Alive 6, the girls remain sexy, and the camera specifically captures the juiciest angles. However, there are fewer revealing outfits that exploit the female image. Now the heroines are dressed in casual clothing. For an additional fee, you can purchase a set of items for characters with more revealing clothing.

In DOA 6, players will encounter a simple but dramatic plot, unfolding around the conflict between Kasumi, the heir of the legendary clan, and Helena Douglas, the president of the new DOATEC. Kasumi has left the clan and lives in seclusion in a mountain village, but after a mysterious ominous incident, she embarks on a path of war.

Douglas's objectives are clear — to collect as much DNA as possible to create strong and powerful fighters. Besides Douglas, Kasumi faces a headache from a certain evil genius with his cunning plan. The story is presented simply — through engine cutscenes mixed with fights in various arenas. If the player wins, they watch the next story cutscene, and the cycle repeats.

In single-player mode, you can compete against the computer for fun or train, honing your skills and combos. Numerous settings for battles, character appearance, and opponents are available. The controls have been simplified to a level that allows a novice to fight against a pro without worrying about memorizing complex schemes.

One of the new gameplay features is the Break Gauge, the first super metric in DOA history. This indicator increases with each attack, and it can be spent on special abilities like Break Blow and Break Hold. By using them correctly, you can gain an advantage.

Now players can counterattack: by noticing the opponent's movement in time, a block is set, a counter is made, after which the foe is sent to the other side of the map with a strong blow.

Dead or Alive 6 offers only one online mode — "player versus player." The absence of the familiar "2 on 2" team battle disappointed many. Koei Tecmo could not implement either lobbies or team play — competitions are only possible with random players.

The gaming opportunities, compared to single-player mode, have not changed. However, battles against a real person are more serious — you have to control their movements, avoid getting hit, and dodge much more often. Immediately after release, the community noticed that the number of online players is low, and it can be difficult to find a partner for sparring.
