An arcade-style racing simulator based on the 1995 Formula One season, F1 Challenge features races on championship circuits. The tracks include Hockenheim, Monte Carlo and Suzuka, alongside the fictional Neo City, which has three different configurations.

Players can choose from five drivers: Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill, Jean Alesi, Ukyo Katayama and Mika Häkkinen. The other teams and drivers from the season appear in the game but cannot be selected. Rather than relying on drifting, F1 Challenge puts the emphasis on simulator-style car handling.
