Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is an arcade shooter in which a geometric ship is trapped in a grid world and faces waves of wanderers, snakes and repulsars. The goal is to survive as long as possible and achieve a high score.

The player dodges spawning enemies and shoots them for points. Smart bombs clear all enemies from the screen, while consecutive kills increase the score multiplier; dying resets it, so it must be built up again.
