The game continues the story of Max Caulfield and Chloe Price from Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Double Exposure. Max still struggles to accept the loss of her companion, while Chloe returns to Caledonian University to confront the nightmares and memories that seem impossible. At the same time, Max finds herself in danger: in three days, the campus will be destroyed by fire, and she must find a way to prevent the disaster. Players will face difficult decisions that will determine the fate of the heroines and the fate of Caledon.
Max regains the ability to rewind time, allowing her to replay dialogues and change the environment to solve tasks in multiple dimensions. Chloe becomes controllable, and her behavior style, sarcastic nature, and resourcefulness help advance the investigation of her memories. Players must find the cause of the fire before it destroys the university, and choices will affect the survival of the characters. The game also features a new soundtrack with original compositions and licensed tracks that create an atmosphere and reference past parts of the series.
