Luftrausers is an arcade aerial combat shooter set among the clouds and over open seas. Players configure their fighter by choosing its weapon, body, and propulsion system, then battle enemy planes, submarines, battleships, and rival aces. Different combinations change how the aircraft handles and attacks, as well as the dynamic soundtrack.

Completing missions and scoring points unlock new parts combinations and color variations. The game also features duels against rival aces and challenges built around mastering different aircraft configurations.
