A stunning simulator of clinical autism and desktop crashes, in which the great Metro title is reduced to exactly 40 minutes of underground running in frozen Novosibirsk, and the rest of the time you'll be sadly crawling on your belly through the lifeless mud of the Volga and the miserable sand of the Caspian Sea! The brilliant decision to create a first-person shooter with a ton of well-designed weapons, in which you're brutally punished with a bad ending for every shot, forcing you to lull hordes of bandits to sleep with a gentle pat on the back of the head, is incredibly impressive. The protagonist, Artyom, deserves special respect—an absolute titan of thought, who, in cutscenes, unleashes a three-story spiritual philosophy in his diary, but in lively dialogue, he turns into a mute fish, forcing his tenderly wailing wife Anya and the deranged Colonel Melnik to talk to nothing. The technical state of this masterpiece is simply astounding: you'll regularly fall through textures, die from falling off curbs, experience endless black screens in add-ons, and suffer from bugs carefully imported into the licensed version from fan repacks. And when the game freezes completely, blocking the Task Manager, you'll have to gently force the power button on your system unit. And, of course, the icing on this cranberry cake is a total time warp, where the nuclear apocalypse occurred in 2013, but all of Russia is somehow stuck in the Khrushchev-era 1980s, with pot-bellied Brezhnev-era televisions, maps of the USSR on the walls, and hordes of cannibals dressed as Marshal Zhukov.
