NBA Jam 2003 is an arcade basketball game built around three-on-three matches, with high-flying dunks, crossovers and blocks. There are no fouls, and returning series features include On-Fire and Big Head modes, hotspots on the court and hidden characters.

The Legends Tournament features more than 50 players from different eras, with games spanning the 1950s through the 1990s. Music, uniforms, hairstyles, commentary and moves reflect each period. The game also includes Exhibition matches, tournaments and mini-games, as well as a Create-A-Player mode; player attributes can be upgraded in the JAM Store.
