This futuristic arcade shooter follows the pilot of the Raiden fighter as they battle invading forces from a top-down perspective. Combat features familiar weapons from the series, including spread shot, a laser cannon and a proton laser, along with waves of enemies and boss battles.
Two players can fight together in co-op, while a separate mode lets one player control two ships. Additional challenges unlock as the game progresses: Boss Rush pits players against bosses they have already defeated, and Score Attack lets them replay levels to pursue a high score. Replay mode provides a way to analyze runs and boss behavior, while the gallery contains images and Easter eggs.
