Solo Flight is a flight simulator in which the player pilots a small aircraft using its instruments, maps and VOR radio navigation. Flights can follow visual or instrument flight rules; in poor weather, the horizon and prominent landmarks may disappear, making signals from ground stations and airports essential for finding the route. There is no autopilot or computer-aided navigation.
The Mail Pilot mode tasks the player with delivering mail bags to regional airports in the least amount of time. Fuel and cargo affect both speed and handling difficulty, while worsening weather and mechanical emergencies add further challenges. The score also reflects piloting and landing performance, and the game offers four difficulty levels and routes across Colorado, Kansas, and Washington and Oregon.
