A garden-management simulation with strategy and puzzle elements, Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise follows the effort to turn a neglected plot on Piñata Island into a home for piñatas. The player clears the garden, grows and maintains vegetation, cares for and breeds piñatas, and attracts new species. Seven new species have their own requirements, houses, and cut scenes.
Playground mode lets players quickly create a garden filled with a variety of piñatas. Tutorial levels are presented through video clips featuring characters from the Viva Piñata TV series. Rare piñatas can also be obtained by transferring garden items to another player over a local wireless connection.
