Warfare 1917 is a real-time strategy game set during World War I, where British and German forces fight over trenches and positions on the battlefield. Players command infantry and vehicles, and can call in artillery or mortar support and use mustard gas; units and weapons must prepare before they can be deployed.

Victory comes from capturing enough enemy territory or breaking the opposing force’s morale and forcing a surrender. In the campaigns, the available roster expands as battles are won, reflecting the historical development of the armies. The game also includes a mode for creating custom levels.
