A real-time fantasy strategy game with role-playing progression unfolds in Etheria, where persistent heroes and their retinues fight in large-scale battles. Heroes gain levels during play and can advance beyond level 50; the game offers 28 classes and 16 races, including new additions to the series. Armies field different troop types, while automated systems reduce the need for micromanagement.
Between battles, players can earn titles and awards, trade, purchase items and retinue members, and upgrade a castle. The game features spells from multiple spheres of magic, new abilities for high-level heroes, and items—some of which can cast spells. Battlefields include jungles, ruins, underground caverns, and rocky or lava-covered terrain.
