Bethesda Veteran Believes Even a Perfect TES 6 Will Still Raise Fans' Wrath

The Elder Scrolls 6 is definitely going to be a big deal when it launches, and some developers are already bracing for the excitement. One former Bethesda employee has admitted that the studio will definitely face backlash from players even if it releases a perfect game.
Over the course of his career, artist Nate Purkeypile has worked on games like Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, and Starfield. He recently spoke at GDC 2025 about his negative experience with the launch of Fallout 76. Because of the terrible state of the game upon release, players not only lashed out at Bethesda, but also began to harass the staff. Nate Purkypyle is confident that the studio will face a wave of negativity again after the release of the new TES game:
Even if The Elder Scrolls 6 is great, I'm sure there's gonna be these hour-long YouTube videos [and] death threats yet again. If you put out a game that people don't like, the internet is going to treat you like you're clubbing baby seals.
By the way, after leaving Bethesda, Nate Purkypyle released his own game, The Axis Unseen. It's a fantasy "heavy metal horror" in which players hunt monsters. On Steam, the project received 81% positive reviews.
Bethesda recently held a charity auction, the winner of which would be able to create their own NPC for TES 6. However, not all fans were happy with the result. The game itself still hasn't even received an approximate release window.
