Kinetic Games has unveiled the 2026 roadmap for Phasmophobia, outlining the release plan for version 1.0 and key updates that will mark the end of the horror game’s early access period, which began back in 2020. The studio is calling the upcoming year “the biggest yet” in the game’s six-year development cycle and describes the roadmap as “the path to the full release.”

The published roadmap highlights several major updates: a complete character overhaul, migration to Unity 6, an updated network code, the launch of a Nintendo Switch 2 version, and the release of Phasmophobia 1.0, which will feature a reworked horror experience and expanded lore. The developers note that some details about the character update and version 1.0 have already been shared in the latest dev diary, but more information will be revealed closer to the respective launches.

A separate focus is placed on the transition to Unity 6 and the new netcode, expected to improve the game’s technical state and online stability, though specific details about these changes haven’t been disclosed yet. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is listed as part of the 2026 plans, but there’s no mention of a release window or functional differences.

Throughout 2026, Kinetic Games will continue updating older maps, aiming for the quality standard set by the Grafton Farmhouse and Bleasdale Farmhouse reworks. First up is 6 Tanglewood Drive, which was showcased in the latest Development Preview and is “coming soon,” followed later in the year by an updated 13 Willow Street.

The studio promises improved visuals, targeted but impactful changes to map layouts, new assets, interactive elements, and additional environmental details. The developers emphasize that the goal of these reworks is to maintain the recognizable structure and atmosphere of fan-favorite maps while bringing them in line with Phasmophobia’s current vision—a goal they feel was achieved with last year’s updates.

In addition to these overhauls, a brand-new map will be introduced in 2026. Following the release of Nell’s Diner in 2025, the new level will offer “a new type of location” for Phasmophobia, though the team isn’t sharing specifics just yet.

Kinetic Games is also planning another packed year of in-game events for the community. In 2026, three familiar events—Cursed Hollow, Crimson Eye, and Winter’s Jest—will return around the same timeframes, giving players the chance to complete challenges for rewards and trophy progression.

Alongside these, a new limited-time event is in the works. Its format, theme, and timing remain under wraps for now, but the team hints that it will be worth the wait, suggesting a larger scale or unique structure.

The roadmap is described as just an “overview” of the year’s plans, with “many things still behind the scenes.” The launch of Phasmophobia 1.0—with its horror overhaul, expanded lore, and system improvements—is set as the key milestone for 2026, marking the end of the game’s long early access period. The studio closes with a traditional message to its “ghost hunters,” emphasizing that community feedback will remain crucial as the roadmap unfolds.

By the way, not long ago the Phasmophobia team launched their own publishing label to support other indie developers.
