The world's most expensive water cooling: a shopper paid $1,100 for a sealed RTX 5070 Ti and pulled a two-liter bottle out of the box

The packaging looked untouched — factory film intact, serial number sticker exactly where it should be. Which is why a Moscow shopper who had just paid around 90,000 rubles, roughly $1,100, for a GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5070 Ti EAGLE OC ICE decided to film himself opening it at the collection point rather than at home. Inside the sealed retail box sat a two-liter bottle of water. The footage has since made the rounds online.

The bottle wasn't a punchline — it was engineering. Whoever pulled the swap needed the parcel to weigh roughly what a graphics card weighs, and two liters of water does the job with impressive precision. Nobody handling the box along the way would have felt anything off, and nobody looking at it would have seen anything either.

The leading theory doesn't point at couriers or warehouse staff at all, but at a previous customer. The scheme runs like this: order an expensive card, carefully open the factory packaging, remove the contents, drop in something of matching weight, seal it back up and file a return. The box goes back to the warehouse and ships out to the next buyer as new. Resealing is the easy part — heat-sealing machines are standard warehouse equipment, which is precisely why intact shrink wrap stopped meaning anything years ago.

Water bottles are just the current favorite. One buyer expecting an RTX 3070 found a bottle and a rag, an Amazon customer waiting on an RTX 5090 received a bag of rice, a bag of pasta and a completely different brand of graphics card, and another opener was greeted by wooden blocks cut to the right weight. The creativity varies; the physics never does.

Whether the Moscow buyer got his money back hasn't been reported. What is clear is that the decision to hit record before touching the box was the single most valuable thing he did that day — the video starts before the parcel is even in his hands, which makes the obvious accusation, that he swapped the card himself, extremely difficult to make stick. For now he owns the least efficient and by far the most expensive liquid cooling solution on the market.
