How to Get to the Ruins of Unte in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The Ruins of Unte are a hidden location in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring. They are located in Scadu Altus, but you can find them on the eastern side of the Shadow Keep. Getting to the ruins themselves can be quite challenging, so in this guide, we'll explain how to do it.

How to Reach the Ruins of Unte

To reach the Ruins of Unte, you need to find a secret coffin inside the Shadow Keep. This is the same route you will need to take to get to the Abyssal Woods area in the Shadow Realm, so the best starting point is the site of grace Main Gate Plaza inside the Shadow Keep. It will appear after you have defeated the Golden Hippopotamus.

Go through the western side of the Shadow Keep until you reach a place with rows of burning boats. To your left, there will be a large staircase leading to the Shadow Keep warehouse, but you need to go past it to the eastern side of this area. Deal with the militiamen hiding here among the boats, and once the area is cleared, you will see a corpse with a Silver-Pickled Fowl Foot next to a small staircase.

Descend this staircase and enter the hidden passage behind the waterfall. Then you will need to go down another staircase. At the bottom, you will see a small storeroom containing the painting Domain of the Dragons. Strike the illusory wall to open another hidden path.

In this room, there is a tricky illusory wall, and here is what the open arch looks like if you stumble upon it

Continue down the newly opened passage, and at the end, you will find a sinister stone coffin. Interact with this coffin to get inside and embark on a journey down the waterfall.

Once you exit the coffin, activate the site of grace Castle Watering Hole, and you will find that the Ruins of Unte are right in front of you.

How to Enter the Ruins of Unte

At first glance, it may seem like there's nothing much to do in the Ruins of Unte, as the entrance is blocked by a large inactive Golem. However, there is a way inside, and below we will explain how to get there.

First, on the left side of the ruins (to the north), there is a small partially destroyed building that you can climb up using its walls and red roofs. Along the way, you will find one Lost Ashes of War and three Smithing Stones.

You can obtain some items by climbing the walls of this ruined building

Upon reaching the dead end, you will be very close to the inactive golem. No matter how hard you try, you won't be able to climb or jump onto it to get into the ruins.

Instead, you need to throw a Hefty Furnace Pot into the large woven head of the golem. You can learn how to craft the Hefty Furnace Pot by obtaining the Greater Potentate's Cookbook 2, which can be found in the Traveler's Rest cabin on the Gravesite Plain. The nearest site of grace is Greatbridge, North, so if you don't have it yet, you can fast travel there and find it before returning to the site of grace Castle Watering Hole.

You will need to throw the Hefty Furnace Pot into the golem's head to get into the ruins

To craft the Hefty Furnace Pot, you will need:

  • 1x Redflesh Mushroom;
  • 1x Ember of Messmer;
  • 1x Furnace Visage.

Fortunately, mushrooms are commonly found in the Shadow Realm, and the other two ingredients can be found right here in the Ruins of Unte if you don't have them yet. You will find three Embers of Messmer on a corpse in the building to the right (south) of the ruins, and inside the decayed bodies of other dead golems, there are plenty of Furnace Visages.

By going through the building to the south of the ruins, you will obtain some Embers of Messmer
Nearby, among the fallen golems, you will find Furnace Visages

Throwing the Pot into the inactive golem will essentially revive it. You can dash straight into the ruins if you immediately summon Torrent, but you might want to stay and fight the golem.

Be careful: there is another furnace golem that will emerge from the water to the south of the ruins if you approach it. If you don't want to fight two enemies at once, we recommend dealing with the one in the water first before reviving the one blocking the entrance. Alternatively, if you don't want to fight either of them, summon Torrent and dash to a safe spot before attempting to run past the Golem into the ruins.

However, do not attempt to fight the Furnace Golem on top — summon Torrent and dash to the open water area nearby

Once inside the ruins, you will need to collect two items. You can obtain the Stone-Sheathed Sword from the marked grave on the right, and the spell Giant Golden Arc from the chapel inside the treasure chest.

Before leaving, don't forget to grab the Revered Spirit Ash just beyond the ruins (there is a broken wall on the back side), which you will find behind the rocks to the east.

To increase the distance between you and these creatures, keep moving south and activate the site of grace Recluses River Upstream.
