Steal a Horse

Stealing a horse is one of the possible ways to acquire a steed in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, although it's not the most practical. The thing is, stolen horses always return to their original location as soon as you dismount. Nevertheless, this method can be a good temporary solution to speed up travel and save time on completing tasks.

The first opportunity to explore the open world appears at the beginning of the main quest "Uninvited Guests," when players find themselves in the town of Troskovice, the largest settlement in the Trosky region. One option to get a horse is to steal it from a pen on the south side of the town.

Tip: Be cautious, as if any bystander notices the theft, they will definitely report it to the authorities, and you will have to pay a fine or face punishment on your next visit to the town. If you're afraid of making a mistake, use manual save beforehand.

If necessary, you can always return to the pen in Troskovice and try to steal another steed. Note that similar pens with horses can be found in other towns as well.

Free Horse (Requires Speech Skill)

To use this method, head to the town of Semine, located southwest of the main settlement. There, you need to find the horse trader and approach a gray horse named Pebbles. Greet her using the appropriate option, then talk to the trader.

You have two options:

  1. Persuade the trader: If your speech level is 7 or higher, choose the phrase "Be reasonable" to get Pebbles for free.
  2. Buy the horse: If persuasion doesn't work, you can simply pay for her.

Getting the horse for free will also unlock the "Old Friend" achievement, which is a nice bonus for collectors.

Buy a Horse

Another option is to purchase any horse from the trader in Semine, which we mentioned in the previous section. The base price is 150 groschen, but with bargaining skills, you can lower the cost. However, the best option is to get the horse for free by successfully passing the speech check.

If your speech level hasn't reached 7 yet, you can quickly increase it by interacting with the town's residents. This is a great way to improve the skill and save money by getting a horse as a gift.

Get a Horse from a Quest

As part of the quest "Back in the Saddle", you are automatically given a horse named Herring, which surpasses Pebbles in stats. If you already have a steed, you can choose between the current and the new horse.
