What is Reputation?
The reputation system in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 closely resembles that of the first part, but with a couple of noticeable improvements. The reputation system has become deeper — players have more freedom in how they can behave in Bohemia. The developers have worked hard to make this part feel like a medieval knight simulator. And if you don't want a lot of trouble on your doorstep, you should always be cautious during your endeavors.
Reputation affects how local residents perceive the protagonist. If they like you, they will greet you kindly, and merchants may even offer discounts. On the other hand, if they hate you, they might not even speak to you.
Although many places on the map lack wandering law enforcement, it's still not a "no man's land." Therefore, you should always be cautious about the decisions you make at the most critical moments. The game asserts that all your decisions affect the area you are in.
You can improve your reputation by completing quests. But you can also worsen it if you commit crimes or lie. News of your behavior spreads among people, so if you help or harm one person, other residents in the area will soon find out.
How to Worsen Reputation — Crimes
There are many actions in this game that can be considered crimes. However, this does not mean you are forbidden from committing them. You can be as ruthless a knight as you wish, but there are some things you should pay attention to.
There are no complex criminal actions in the game, but anything that makes the protagonist a bad Christian will be considered a crime. Therefore, if you want to be a law-abiding citizen, refrain from the following actions:
- Murdering innocent people;
- Harming innocent people or pets;
- Theft;
- Intruding into random houses;
- Disturbing public order.
If there are people around who see you committing a crime, they will immediately report it to a guard. They may also be brave enough to try to stop you.
When too many crimes occur in an area within a short time, people become more vigilant and arm themselves, and guards call for reinforcements to restore order. This is called a state of unrest. You'll have to wait for everything to return to normal.
The first way to avoid lowering your reputation is to not commit any crimes. So before stealing, lockpicking, or killing innocent people, think — do you really need to do it?
How to Improve Reputation?
You can check your reputation among various communities or settlements by opening the interactive menu. Go to the "Player" tab and select the "Reputation" menu. The icon on the right shows how satisfied community members are with the protagonist. The colors and appearance of the icon easily interpret the attitude towards the character.
- A yellow smiling face means you are in good standing and loved;
- An orange neutral face means opinions about you are mixed — not too bad, but not too good either;
- A red angry face means you have committed a crime and people do not like you much.
In each village or town you visit, you will have a separate reputation among the locals. But rumors spread between communities, so even if you have never visited a village or town, your established reputation will still affect how you are perceived.
Paying Indulgence or Pilgrimage
The simplest and quickest way to improve your bad reputation is to pay indulgence or undertake a penitent pilgrimage. You need to make a payment into a special box. This donation will help you raise your reputation in the social category of holy people. And then they will spread this information among the peaceful residents.
You can also do this by speaking with a priest, who can obviously be found in towns with churches. During a pilgrimage, a monk will guide you to a shrine where you need to pray to receive absolution. This will have the same effect as paying indulgences.
Completing Quests
One of the main ways to improve your reputation in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is by completing quests. Help townsfolk throughout Bohemia — save them from wolves killing sheep, brew potions for sick residents, or assist with everyday tasks. Quests will also help you earn money.
Trading
Simply purchasing items from local merchants, without excessive haggling, boosts your reputation. This shows appreciation to the merchants, and they might even offer you discounted goods in the future.
If you offer a few extra groschen over the asking price, it will further boost your reputation among the townsfolk. However, an unsuccessful attempt at haggling will worsen your reputation, so be careful when trying to lower the price.
Random Encounters
When you quickly travel from one place to another or simply journey over long distances, you may encounter random events. There, you might meet innocent people in a difficult situation. These could be bandits or aggressive wild animals. Help the characters survive the battle.
This will not only help improve your reputation but also spread rumors about you among others. You never know from which village or town the stranger you managed to save came. Behind the protagonist's back, they will only speak good things.
Politeness
It turns out that not being rude greatly helps in improving reputation in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Choosing the right dialogue option when responding can help you either boost or spoil your reputation. Read all the lines and be sure to choose the best one.
Just be polite to people during conversations. Some successful persuasion attempts will also boost your reputation. Try not to threaten people with violence.
Perks
The game has several useful perks that affect gaining reputation. For example, more reputation for pilgrimage.
Returning to Quest Givers
Interestingly, if you return to some quest givers and talk to them after receiving the "Quest Completed" notification, you can improve your reputation. One example of this could be returning to Bozhena, the herbalist from the beginning of the game. This also applies to other tasks in the game, so you can revisit some NPCs in a couple of days to improve your reputation.
Torch
Carry a torch with you when exploring settlements at night to avoid scaring the locals.
