Dune: Awakening Ornithopter Guide — Assembly, Upgrades, and Resource Locations
Dune: Awakening is the long-awaited game based on Frank Herbert’s legendary universe. The project invites gamers to conquer the endless sands of Arrakis. In this guide, we’ll describe in detail how to assemble an ornithopter, as well as provide piloting tips. Additionally, you’ll learn the recipes for all models and where to find materials for construction.
What is an Ornithopter
Ornithopter is a flying machine powered by the synchronized movement of four wings, which generate thrust and then shift into a position allowing the vessel to glide.
The machine consists of the following modules:
- Storage compartment.
- Wings.
- Generator.
- Engine.
- Cockpit.
- Steering engine.
- Chassis.
- Hull.
There are three types of ornithopters:
- Scout: The lightest of all flying machines, it can carry one person over long distances. The only ornithopter that can be stored in your inventory.
- Assault: A medium-sized ship designed for three people. Perfect for deploying into combat zones or collecting resources together.
- Transport: A massive air vehicle used for transporting groups of people and cargo. The slowest of all ornithopters, the carrier is equipped with heavy armor.
Each ornithopter fulfills its specific tasks; for example, the assault variant is ideal for farming resources with friends, while the scout is used as a personal transport. Below, we provide a list of materials for each ornithopter model.

How to Assemble an Ornithopter
Now let’s talk about how to assemble flying vehicles. First, you need to acquire a base, where you must place a variety of workbenches and generators. To create the modules needed to assemble an ornithopter, you’ll need a Transport Fabricator:
- Silicon Block: 180.
- Complex Equipment: 100.
- Melange Spice: 45.
- Industrial Pump: 50.
- Cobalt Paste: 150.
- Plasteel Ingot: 140.
Place your base roughly in the center of the map to make it easier to reach resource spawn points. Below, we’ll describe how to gather the materials needed to create the starter aluminum scout ornithopter.
How to Get Water
First, build tanks for water storage. There are two ways to obtain water in the game: process blood or collect dew from flowers.
Blood Extraction Collect blood from enemies and process it using a blood purification station; this way you can get about 6,000 milliliters from one setup. However, we recommend checking out our Fremen Trials walkthrough and obtaining a biodistiller, which allows you to produce up to 25,000 units per day.
Dew Collection Find flower fields in the foothill regions and collect water at night using a dew collector. Be sure to bring liters with you. This way, you can collect over 100,000 units in a single night.
It’s also worth mentioning that the game features wind catchers. This device must be installed on the roof of an outpost, after which it continuously collects water from the air. It doesn’t produce much, but several locations can provide a couple of thousand milliliters per day or more.
How to Get Aluminum Ingot
To efficiently mine aluminum, acquire a high-quality laser cutter and completely free up your inventory to carry as much raw material as possible. Aluminum ore looks like a large stone with a distinctive glossy metallic sheen.
You can mine the raw material in the northern regions. To process the material, you need to have an ore processing machine at your base. One aluminum ingot requires 200 units of water and seven pieces of aluminum ore.
How to Get Cobalt Paste
Paste is made from erythrin crystals, which can be mined in the Hobba Pit Gorge. We described how to obtain the mineral in this article.
It should be added that to process erythrin you need a refining station. To get cobalt paste, you need to spend three crystals and 75 water.
How to Find Servos and Capacitors
Servos and particle capacitors are widely found in the ruins of the empire. You are guaranteed to find them in chests at test stations.
How to Get Armor Plates
Armor plates can be found in imperial ruins, shipwrecks, and looted from the bodies of fallen enemies. To get the material, clear out outposts.
You can definitely loot armor plates from machine gunners. In addition, some bases have green safes where you can find many plates.
How to Find Complex Equipment
You can obtain complex equipment by dismantling old machines in abandoned metallurgical plants. Additionally, the material sometimes appears at test stations.
How to Get Industrial Pumps
In the rocks of the eastern defensive wall, there is the city of sentinels, where you can find many chests containing pumps. Another option is to buy them from Zoe at the "Crossroads" trading post for 2,500 solari.
How to Find Diamantine Dust and Carbide Scrap
Look for these materials in locations like Mesa Tarill. Get rid of cultists and search the chests; additionally, these materials are often found in enemy outposts in the northwest region.
Piloting Tips
- The scout ornithopter is designed for one person, but technically other players can climb onto the fuselage roof. To avoid falling off, fly smoothly and warn your companions about upcoming maneuvers.
- The ornithopter works like a glider, so use the engine only to gain altitude.
- If you exceed an altitude of 600 meters with the engine running, the fuel will instantly burn out and the ship will fall.
- Use the "Griffin" function to switch between gliding and engine operation.
- To gain altitude while gliding, dive down, then, after gaining speed, point the cursor upward.
- If you turn on the engine while gliding, the speed will drop to zero.
- The optimal flight speed is around 150 kilometers per hour; to achieve it, go into a dive when speed drops below 120, then gain altitude at 170.
It’s worth adding that all ornithopter modules and components for its construction can be purchased on the in-game exchange. You can also trade or buy them from other players. Moreover, if you join an active guild and actively participate in alliance development, you will obtain a flying vehicle much faster.
