Mortal Shell 2: All Sidearm Locations — Where to Find Them
Mortal Shell 2 has eight ranged weapons in all. As with your melee weapons, it's best to pick them up early so you can try out every combination and settle on the loadout you want to upgrade. The merchant Merrick in Marrow Keep sells location maps for all of them, but these point to a general search area rather than an exact spot on the map. Collecting all eight sidearms unlocks the "Guns. Lots of Guns" achievement. This guide covers where to find every ranged weapon and how to reach it.
Naylshotte
You'll pick up this shotgun-style weapon back in the prologue. The Naylshotte and the Iconoclast sword make up the first weapon set you receive, along with the Harros Shell. If you're curious about the other shells, check out our guide Mortal Shell 2 All Shells Guide: Which One Should You Choose?
Forgotten Crossbow
The crossbow is in the Flooded Village — an underground location set among ruins. First, you'll need to open access to those ruins using a portal. You can reach it from the Blackridge Pass Beacon. Follow the bridges below the beacon and you'll come to a clearing with enemies guarding a portal that's been boarded up with planks. Clear the area and break the planks. Now look at the entrance to the ruins through the portal and step through it.
Access to the dungeon is now unlocked, but there are plenty of poisonous enemies below, so early in the game it's more comfortable to tackle this location as the Tiel Shell, thanks to his poison immunity.
In the first room of the dungeon there's a button on the left wall, behind some crates. Press it and take the lift behind the gate that opens. At some point the lift will crash down, cutting off your way back.
Once you've dealt with the poisonous enemies, look for the large intact house lit by a beam of light. You need to get inside it to grab the Damp Key, which opens the room with the crossbow.
To reach the key, head down the wooden stairs. In front of them lies a note that mentions the Damp Key, and across from it is a locked gate that this key opens.
On the way down you'll run into several enemies and some totems that glow green — they explode when you hit them, so be careful. Once you've cleared the enemies, you can move freely along the wooden structures toward the house. At the top, you'll find the Damp Key on the porch, to the left of the house's entrance.
Now head back to the gate, open it, and grab the Forgotten Crossbow.
Troubadour's Lute
The Troubadour's Lute, which makes enemies attack one another, sits on the stage in the One Legged Wolf tavern. Nearby is a beacon of the same name, which you can reach once you gain the ability to clear areas blocked by corruption.
Salvaged Trebuchaxe
The weapon is in a dungeon called Ravaged Hideout. You can get there very quickly from the Gloomshade Grove Beacon. The shortest route will cost you a little health. Head behind the beacon, go right up to the edge, and carefully drop down by the wall on the right. You'll land on a ledge from which you can jump down and run to the dungeon, ignoring the enemies along the way.
In the first room of the dungeon there's a hidden opening in the wall, behind some wooden crates. Go through it and keep moving until you spot another similar gap in the wall. It's at the end of the dungeon and easy to see. As soon as you pass through it, several ghosts will appear in the room. Deal with the enemies and grab the Salvaged Trebuchaxe.
Ballistazooka
You'll earn the Ballistazooka after defeating the boss known as the Subjugated Guardian in the Sentry's Grave dungeon. The fastest way to reach the spot is from the Gate of Mammon Beacon.
To the left of the beacon is a wooden staircase; climb it and continue up a second flight of stairs. As soon as you reach the top, turn left and you'll see the entrance to a tower. Head into the second room, where the dungeon entrance is on the right.
You can run past most of the enemies in the dungeon. Once you head down, run into the corridor on the right. Then break the wooden barricade blocking the way and immediately turn right. From there, run through the lava room and along the corridor to the boss. In the boss arena, you'll need to find cover quickly, since he isn't alone. Deal with the two regular enemies without exposing yourself to the Subjugated Guardian's attacks. When he's the only enemy left in the arena, wait for him to fire, then rush straight at him. If you stand right up against him, he'll only use a single attack that's easy to parry. Once the boss is down, you'll receive the Ballistazooka.
Triarch Repeater
The repeater lies in Blackwell Cavern. You can reach the dungeon from the Castigator's Keep Beacon. Take the lift to the right of the beacon. Down below you'll find a few flying enemies. Deal with them and head down the path on the right, which sits beneath a tree. Once you're down the path, turn left right away and approach the cliff edge. Drop down and keep going. The dungeon entrance will be on your left.
Inside the dungeon, several ghosts block the path to the weapon. If you'd rather, you can simply run past them. You'll come to a well-lit spot with a corpse and some broken carts. That's where you'll find the Triarch Repeater.
Cursed Child
The weapon is in the Revered Beacon dungeon. You can get there quickly from the Sester's Gate Beacon. With your back to the beacon, you'll see two staircases. Climb the left one and turn right straight away. Go through the arch and turn left. After a few meters, turn left again, just before you reach the enemy with the hammer.
You'll come to a fork. Take the left path and keep going until you see a lift shaft. The lift itself will be at the bottom, so if you've been running past enemies this whole time, don't stop now — jump down. As soon as you leave the lift shaft, turn left immediately. In the passageway you'll find the dungeon entrance.
Once you're down in the dungeon, deal with the first two enemies. Don't rush to leave the room.
You'll see a bright light. If it spots you, it will start following you and dealing damage. Wait for your moment, then run along the right side, hugging the cliff edge. Don't turn off anywhere — just run along the edge, doing your best to avoid the enemies' attacks. From there, climb the torch-lit path.
This will bring you to the portal. Use it, and you'll end up on a platform. Strike the flaming pedestal and take the Cursed Child.
Caged Hystrix
To get this weapon, you'll need to defeat the boss Sariel, the Endless. Your first fight with him takes place in an arena near the Silent Steps Beacon. After the first battle, he retreats into a dungeon called the Chamber of Becoming. Follow him and beat him two more times. For a detailed walkthrough of this quest, see our guide Mortal Shell 2 All Melee Weapon Locations.
After defeating Sariel, you'll receive his weapon — the Clockwork Scythe — and the Sariel Shell will become available as well. And in the room that opens up after the boss fight, you'll find the Caged Hystrix.
