Surface vice president Brett Ostrum confirmed to Windows Central that Microsoft is moving away from the Copilot+ PC designation for new computers. The company is ending the branding, but not the underlying support: Windows 11 PCs will still get AI features and tools.
Microsoft introduced the Copilot+ name in 2024 for computers designed to support artificial intelligence features. The company released its own devices under the label and recommended that partners use it for compatible models.
Windows Central editor Zac Bowden noted that none of Microsoft's 2026 Surface computers carried the Copilot+ designation. A year earlier, Microsoft was still actively including the label in device names.
The shift separates Windows 11's AI capabilities from the Copilot+ marketing label. Those features are set to remain in the operating system and future computers, even as Microsoft drops the designation.
