The new compact Xbox Nano controller has a feature tied to cloud gaming. This is Direct-to-Cloud technology, which lets the device connect directly to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers over Wi-Fi. No other Microsoft gamepad currently offers this feature.
The feature came to light after the relevant settings appeared on the Xbox Cloud Gaming website. When the controller is connected, users are prompted to set up a connection to the cloud service over a wireless network. That requires using the Xbox mobile app and pairing the device with Microsoft’s servers. The key thing about Direct-to-Cloud is how it sends commands: with a standard Bluetooth connection, signals from the gamepad first go to a PC, TV, or another device and are then relayed to the cloud service. The new technology lets the controller send commands directly to Xbox servers, which should reduce input lag during gameplay. [url=/gaming-news/94661-google-stadia.html]A similar approach was previously used in the Google Stadia controller.
Microsoft has not yet announced a full launch of Direct-to-Cloud, and the technology is currently in testing, so its availability and final terms of use may change. Interestingly, the Xbox Nano may not be the only Microsoft controller with this capability. There were earlier reports of plans to bring direct cloud connectivity to the Xbox Elite Series 3, and if that information is confirmed, the technology could become one of the standard ways future Xbox gamepads connect.
The Xbox Nano itself went on sale on November 4, 2026. The controller is positioned as a compact solution for users with smaller hands and for those who need a portable gaming device. It costs $49.99 in the U.S. market (about 4,000 rubles). The device supports Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth, has a built-in battery, and features a programmable Action Button.
Do you think it makes sense to buy a separate gamepad just to reduce latency in cloud gaming, or is a regular Bluetooth connection good enough? Share your thoughts in the comments.
