AirPods Pro 3 Case Becomes a Jittery Mac Cursor Controller
Andy Gao's macOS utility lets AirPods Pro 3 users control a cursor with hand motions and taps. Instead of sliding the case across a desk, users can rotate their hand to move the pointer, then use a light tap on the case as a mouse click.
The case acts like a pointer: gyroscopes in the AirPods track hand rotations, and the utility converts those movements into cursor input. That lets users control the cursor in the air rather than on a surface.
A demonstration video shows the pointer moving accurately, but the motion across the screen is not very smooth. The main drawback is a jittery cursor.
Gao described the result in a post on X:
I turned my airpod case into a mouse and it works pretty well!
Gao posted the demonstration on November 4, 2026, and says he plans to publish the utility's source code soon. He has not described any other features.
How important is smooth cursor movement for this unusual control method if the case already lets users do without a regular mouse?
