Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5 — an action-adventure hack and slash game with a third-person perspective. The numbered sequel to the franchise tells the story of what happened after Devil May Cry 4. The world is once again threatened with destruction as seeds of the "demonic tree" have appeared in the center of Redgrave City.

Nero and his partner Nico must confront the monsters. Soon, the legendary Dante joins them, and then they encounter the mysterious V — a new character who hires the team to kill several demons. Together, they set out to fight evil.

The events of Devil May Cry unfold in an alternative reality universe, in a world full of demons and other malevolent creatures that occasionally break into our reality with the aim of destroying all humanity. In the game series, the main characters travel around the globe, exterminating the minions of Hell.

The series is characterized by a linear style of location execution — the player moves from one point to another, defeating all encountered enemies in various ways while completing quests and side tasks. All levels are tied to chapters, but nothing prevents them from being completed multiple times in the same playthrough.

As events unfold, DMC 5 players will explore the fictional city of Redgrave inside and out, clearing a path through demons of all shapes and colors, and will also face bosses that appear at the end of each stage.

The story begins five years after the ending of DMC 4. The main role in the plot is played not by Dante, but by Nero — he has created a mobile agency for hunting demons and travels the world with a talented mechanic girl, Nico, slicing up demons.

The idyll ends at the beginning of DMC 5 — during a battle with the mysterious Urizen, the villain, Nero loses and is deprived of his arm. Nico installs a cybernetic prosthesis, restoring Nero's combat capability. At this moment, all familiar faces return — Dante, Lady, and Trish.

The presence of V adds intrigue, but the game doesn't shine with a special plot — it's a standard hack-and-slash against everyone in a brutal revenge against the main villain. Various characters from previous games in the series will appear along the way, such as Vergil, Dante's brother.

The plot presentation is in the spirit of the franchise: epic scale combined with absurd cutscenes on the engine, maximum spectacle and pathos without significant meaning. However, players will be pleased with numerous scenes on the engine and cutscenes.

The game is built around three characters — Dante, Nero, and V, each with their own unique mechanics for slicing demons that players will need to master.

Dante possesses a vast arsenal of weapons and, compared to other characters, deals colossal damage. He has four play styles: agility and movement speed, melee damage, defense, and long-range weapon use.

Nero is a close combat specialist. He uses his two-handed sword "Red Queen" in a special way, applies mechanical prosthetics "Devil Breakers" with three special abilities and the "Acceleration" mode to increase damage and access additional combo attacks.

V is a classic Summoner from MMOs. He summons a raven-Griffon, a panther-Shadow, and a terrifying Nightmare, who fight in his place. The first two provide ranged and melee combat, while the Nightmare is capable of tearing apart multiple demons alone.

The combat system is still based on scoring points for each successful hit or strike, which are collected into combos. Players are required to change their tactical maneuvers to score more points and show a higher rating.

There is a nonlinear progression that depends on how well the player completes each level. If you press two buttons and use the same moves, the rating will be poor, and by the end of the game, the character will lack powerful moves. There simply won't be enough red orbs that the player spends on learning character skills.

The game is divided into a series of linear missions. Most of them can be completed, in the spirit of GTA 5, by only one character. In several others, you can choose a character to play through. The overall narrative is enough to feel each hero of DMC 5. As they grow stronger with each level, characters learn new moves and techniques and upgrade their pets.

DMC 5 features an asynchronous multiplayer mode similar to Dark Souls — the only multiplayer mode. At any moment, the session can be made open (the "cameo" system) to invite friends or random players to play together.

There will be three players, corresponding to the number of main heroes. In most missions, heroes will fight alongside you, but in some, you will only see the ghost of an ally — they will fight in their own plane.

When you complete a mission with invited players, you can reward each based on style rating if you think they put on a good show. If you were such a ghost and received praise, you will be rewarded for your efforts.
