A console related to the 6th generation of gaming systems. Its sales in Europe began on March 14, 2002, and official support ended on March 2, 2009. It was Microsoft's first independent attempt to enter the console market. Initially named DirectXbox. The operating system is Xbox OS – a heavily modified version of Windows 2000, with DirectX version 8.1. Direct competitors: SEGA Dreamcast, Sony PlayStation 2, and Nintendo GameCube. The best-selling game is Halo: Combat Evolved. The successor to the console is the Xbox 360.
